If you would like to play with us in the league we ask that you become a paid Club Member; you will also require English Chess Federation Membership. However, for casual play, neither of these are required. See where and when to visit us.
Club Membership
Membership fee is currently £30 per year for adults and £15 per year for juniors or students.
This fee helps pay for the hiring of the venue, equipment, and other club costs. Fees are payable to the Club Treasurer by bank transfer or cash (details will be given upon request).
ECF Membership
If you would also like to play in competition matches, then you must become a member of the English Chess Federation. This means that your games can be graded (see the ECF Grading Database) and you receive an ECF registration number.
Membership of the ECF is available at different subscription levels, from Bronze (£21 per year for adults or £7.50 per year for juniors) to Platinum (£75 per year). These fees are not collected by Gloucester Chess Club – instead register with and pay the ECF directly.
The minimum required is Bronze which gives club competition ECF gradings. To compete in FIDE-rated events (and thus to get a FIDE rating) you will need Gold or above.
